Storm Over Europe – The Wandering Tribes

A four part documentary that traces the history of the migration of the Germanic tribes, bringing to life one of the most fascinating epochs in the development of Europe. The longest march in world history began in the 2nd century BC with the first southward movement of the Barbarians and ended almost a thousand years later with the advent of the Middle Ages.

Part 1: ”The Cimbri and the Teutons”
The first tribes to set out for the El Dorado of the south: Around 120 BC the Cimbri and the Teutons set out from home, wreaking havoc and terror throughout the Roman Empire.

Part 2: ”The Battle of Varus and the Saga of the Goths”
In the year 9 AD, the Cheruscians under Arminius deliver a crushing military blow to the superpower Rome and in the east, the Goths erect their center of command at the Black Sea.

Part 3: ”Battle for Rome”
In 375 AD the Huns descended on Eastern Europe. A great flood of Goths and Vandals, Francs and Alemanni were pushed south-west causing the collapse of the Roman Empire.

Part 4: ”Heirs to the Empire”
In the 5th and 6th centuries, the Barbarian tribes establish their own realms on Roman soil. The coronation of Charlemagne in 800 AD ushers in the medieval era in Europe.
