When Christopher Columbus set foot in the New World for the first time more than 500 years ago, he soon discovered the Havana cigar - Europe’s first major trade commodity.
Since then the cigar has gained worldwide renown, revered by famous personalities such as Winston Churchill and Fidel Castro. Even John F. Kennedy was a Havana devotee, although it was his signature that graced the trade embargo on Cuban products.
This 58-minute documentary was shot on location in the Cuban provinces Pinar del Rio and Havana, where it took socialist workers three to four years to produce a single Cigar. We also meet aficionados in London, Madrid, and Berlin and learn that they let the object of their affections go up in smoke within 58 minutes.
